Cybersecurity leaders have long cited the fundamental challenge of lacking visibility into what is happening in their environments. Traditional visibility allows security teams to see events occurring in their environment, but this approach often leads to alert fatigue without actionable intelligence.

Visibility just means knowing something has happened, "but that's not enough," said Raghu Nandakumara, vice president of industry strategy at Illumio. "What we need is an understanding of what it is, how these things connect, and that's what we mean by context … understanding of these discrete events coming together to help us build a clear picture of what is happening in our environment."
