ChatGPT's New Study Mode Is Designed to Help Students Actually Learn

Instead of handing out direct answers, Study Mode includes follow-up questions and can refuse to respond until the student engages directly with their own question.
The tool is a response to growing concerns from educators and researchers, who have noted that many students rely too heavily on AI-generated answers. If left unmitigated, this habit can result in reduced critical thinking skills. One study published in June even found that students who wrote essays using ChatGPT performed less brain activity than those using search engines or nothing at all.
