While the entire photo industry predicted that compact cameras would be dead and buried ten years ago, the Canon PowerShot Elph 360 HS A / Ixus 285 HS A is living proof we were all wrong. It’s unlikely to take over as my main camera any time soon, but it’s a refreshing alternative to my smartphone camera and using it takes me right back to the 2000s, where my photography journey began – I'm happy that compact cameras aren't dead! The zoom range is beyond anything than can be realistically squeezed into a phone, opening up telephoto photography opportunities without the size and weight of a mirrorless system. Ok, the image quality struggles in low light, and there are limited manual controls, but the image stabilization system is excellent, resolution is more than enough, and the lens is sharp and contrasty.
