AMD Next Gen GPUs May Support HDMI 2.2 80Gbps
extremetech.comA new rumor suggests AMD will adopt the next-generation HDMI 2.2 connector on its next-generation graphics cards. The presumed RDNA 5 GPUs (or perhaps first generation UDNA architecture) will allegedly support HDMI 2.2 at up to 80Gbps. That's slightly less than the 96Gbps bandwidth the new standard is capable of, but it brings the HDMI connection in line with the full potential of DisplayPort 2.1 which AMD has used since its RX 7000 generation (though only at 54Gbps).
We're only a few months out from the launch of AMD's RDNA 4 graphics cards, but already the rumors are starting to swirl about what comes next. Amidst talks of AMD powering Microsoft's next-generation Xbox consoles sometime in 2026 or 2027, RDNA 5 is a likely choice for the onboard GPU.
