AMD and Intel High Cache CPUs May Be More for AI Than Gaming
extremetech.comRumors dropped this week about two new future AMD and Intel CPUs with much higher quantities of L3 cache than we've seen in consumer chips. Although they might be good for gaming, these chips are likelier to target users who want to run powerful large language models locally.
Since AMD dropped its first 3D V-Cache CPUs with its Ryzen 5000 generation of processors, it's had a real leg up on Intel in gaming—the added L3 cache just gives it too big an advantage. But Intel is set to finally respond with its next-generation Nova Lake designs. A leak last week asserted that Intel has another CPU in the works featuring two "Big Last Level Cache" (BLLC) chips, which are effectively Intel's version of 3D V-Cache.
