Amazon Now 'Employs' Almost As Many Robots As Warehouse Workers


Amazon has deployed its one millionth robot to its network of global warehouses, bringing it close to the number of actual humans it employs in those same locations. The new robot was installed in one of its fulfillment centers in Japan, and will be joined by the launch of a new AI model, which should make the entire robotic fleet more efficient and capable.

Amazon's robotic rollout has been fast and vast, with TechSpot reporting that the company had deployed only 350,000 of them in 2021, and that number has almost tripled in 2025. It includes a mix of different robots, too, from classic Roomba-style bots zipping about with small packages, to humanoid designs, and a new "Vulcan" robot that has a sense of touch and can handle more sensitive packages and delivery items.
