1HZ Display Helps Dell XPS 14 Last Up to 43 Hours


Dell’s latest XPS 14 laptop boasts an enormous 43-hours battery life, according to independent test results publicized late last week. It owes this impressive stat to its all-new 1Hz-capable display, which we discussed back in March.

Reviewers at Hardware Canucks ran the XPS 14 and the 15‑inch M5 MacBook Air through the same scripted Chrome browsing test at 150 nits brightness, with HDR turned off and basic, mostly static websites in use. In that controlled environment, the XPS 14 reportedly ran for about 43 hours, while the M5 MacBook Air, which has san advertised 18-hour battery life, shut down after roughly 14 and a half hours.

The XPS 14 uses an LG Oxide LCD panel that can vary its refresh rate between 1 and 120Hz. When the content on the screen is unchanging, the laptop can lower its refresh rate to conserve power, much like an e-reader. This ...
